Fort Collins' First Hostel Now Open in Old Town!

The Fernweh Inn & Hostel, in Old Town, introduces an exciting lodging experience never before available in the Fort Collins area. Hostels are probably the least understood of all options for travel. Popular in Europe and elsewhere, the concept is growing in places like San Francisco and Miami, and now in Fort Collins, conveniently located in Old Town. In a nutshell, a hostel is essentially a hotel featuring more shared space and the benefits of a social experience.

Fernweh, a German word, is used to reflect an undeniable love for adventure and the urge to escape your everyday life by traveling. Literally translating to “farsickness”, fernweh sums up ones’ desire to leave their familiar surroundings and explore what the world has to offer.

With high standards for cleanliness, safety, and guest comfort, the family-friendly Fernweh delivers an experience that blows away the expectations any traveler might have of a hostel. The Fernweh Inn & Hostel is a unique gem that offers both private and shared rooms in a beautiful historic setting. Owner and on-site manager, Kelsey Schwager, transformed the 110-year-old landmark property, giving it new life while celebrating its rich history. The Fernweh offers everything from $29/night bunk spots, to entire home rentals for family reunions, weddings, events, and more. Lodging options are as follows:

Bunk Rooms (separate ladies & mens rooms. Each sleeps 4): $29/person

Small Private Room (sleeps 2): $59/night

Large Private Room (sleeps 4): $69/night

Entire Home (sleeps 14): $299/night

Located in Old Town, the Fernweh is just a stones’ throw from exceptional dining, shopping, brewery tours, CSU, and more. It’s an easy walk to all that downtown has to offer, plus guests are encouraged to borrow the hostel bikes to cruise to all of their other favorite spots. In addition, guests can take advantage of a large, fully equipped kitchen, big dining area, outdoor grill, living space with TV+Netflix, tons of books, games, and movies, spacious back patio, fenced yard, and more. The Fernweh is a perfect choice for visitors who are looking for something more unique than what a chain hotel may offer.

“We offer affordable accommodations in a family-friendly environment, and enjoy a diverse group of guests. From families of CSU students, to world-class athletes, entertainers, world travelers, and beyond. The beauty of the Fernweh is that it creates a unique dynamic between people that’s hard to re-create elsewhere. The social aspect is what really sets us apart from hotels. You never know who you are going to meet and learn from”, Schwager explains.

“I created the Fernweh out of an immense passion for the Fort Collins area, and am beyond excited to invite guests to the hostel & give them a true locals’ experience of the town they’re visiting.”

Come and see for yourself! We'd love to have you.
